The Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar is very much a plug-and-play device. Once you connect it to power and your TV, it’s ready to go. However, you’ll want to download the Bose app and run the CustomTune audio calibration ASAP to tailor the soundbar’s output to the acoustics of your living room or home theater space. Of course, if you add either the Lifestyle Ultra Subwoofer or Lifestyle Ultra Speakers to the soundbar, you’ll need to repeat the CustomTune process. Once all of that is complete, the Lifestyle Ultra Soundbar provides a solid boost to your TV audio. The up-firing and PhaseGuide…
Photo: ContourGlobal A 450-megawatt (MW) solar farm with a massive battery system is now under construction in Arizona – and Tesla has already lined up about 90% of its expected electricity output. ContourGlobal held a groundbreaking ceremony on October 6 for Project Sterling, around 20 miles north of Lake Havasu City in Mohave County. The project will cover more than 2,000 acres in the Mojave Desert, and it’s expected to come online in 2028. Sterling will pair more than 760,000 solar panels with over 300 battery storage containers. Its solar panels will have a combined capacity of 509 MW DC,…
Who pays, who bears the risk, who decides, and when? Virginia Commissioner Jehmal Hudson makes a forceful case that serving large-load growth requires credible commitments, earlier coordination, and ratepayer protections built into investment decisions. Judge Jehmal T. Hudson, commissioner of the Virginia State Corporation Commission and incoming president of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC). Good afternoon. Thank you to POWER Magazine for inviting me to join you today. It is a pleasure to be with so many people thinking seriously about one of the most consequential issues facing the electric industry: how we meet extraordinary new demand…
Friday, October 16, 2026 Can AI design new life forms? In 2025, Stanford University PhD student Samuel King came up with a preliminary answer when he used a generative AI model to propose genetic blueprints for microscopic viruses. It isn’t yet an example of AI-generated life, but that could be next. Join senior AI reporter James O’Donnell as he interviews King about his work, being named one of MIT Technology Review’s Innovators Under 35 and new ways of seeing biology. Going live on October 16th at 18:30 BST / 1:30pm EDT / 10:30am PDT Speakers: James O’Donnell, AI Reporter, and Samuel King,…
AI inference is fast becoming the workload that decides the economics of the AI boom. Training built the first wave of GPU clouds, but serving models faster and cheaper will define the next. That shift is pushing specialized cloud providers beyond raw GPU capacity into storage, networking and software. One provider is layering managed services for training, post-training and inference atop its infrastructure, according to Urvashi Chowdhary (pictured), vice president of product and AI services at CoreWeave Inc. “I think if you look at the AI developer’s journey, they’re looking to solve a problem and they want to do it…
If the IONIQ 5 isn’t big enough, Hyundai is preparing to introduce the IONIQ 7, set to fill the gap between the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9. What we know about the Hyundai IONIQ 7 While the IONIQ 9 was set to fill the spot, initially called the “SEVEN” Concept, Hyundai decided the three-row SUV was a better fit as its flagship model, like the Kia EV9. Hyundai offers the IONIQ 5, which is about the size of a Tesla Model Y, and then there’s the three-row EV9, but what if you wanted something in between? Soon, you’ll have the…
When the heads of three of the power sector’s biggest trade associations shared a stage at Experience POWER on Sept. 30, the most notable thing was how little they disagreed. Whether the question was data center backlash, grid security, or what to do about gas-plant emissions rules, the answer came back to the same point: The grid needs a lot more infrastructure, it will cost more than the old infrastructure did, and no regulatory shortcut will let the sector avoid either fact. The session, “Inside the Issues,” was moderated by Mark W. Menezes, president and CEO of the United States…
But here’s what I really think is going on: When people say they hate AI it’s not the technology they dislike but, rather, the relentless drive of the companies behind it to push the tech upon us in as many ways as possible. They’re telling us to brace for the biggest social and economic upheaval in generations. How do they expect people to feel? In many ways, we’ve been here before. We saw a similar dynamic play out with social media over the last 20 years. Billions flocked to Facebook and Twitter despite mounting techlash against the companies that ran…
Giant artificial intelligence rounds have pushed U.S. venture capital deal value about 44% past its previous annual record with a quarter still to go, according to the quarterly PitchBook-NVCA Venture Monitor report released today, but the exits needed to return that money to investors have not kept pace. Much of the $515.8 billion invested in the first nine months of the year went to OpenAI Group PBC and Anthropic PBC, which between them raised more than $200 billion in the first half. Without those rounds, PitchBook’s analysts said, the dollar totals have held to much the same trend since late…
The Mac Studio M5 Ultra is one of the most powerful desktops you can buy on either macOS or Windows. Its Geekbench 6 CPU single-core score is among the highest Engadget has seen, falling just below the new Mac Mini M6’s tally due to the latter’s more recent processor. For the multi-core CPU test, I needed to use Geekbench 7 (Geekbench 6 couldn’t seem to handle the M5 Ultra’s extra cores), and the new Mac Studio destroyed the old Mac Studio M3 Ultra with a score of 52,185 compared to 39,145. That’s right up there with AMD’s latest 64-core Ryzen…
